It was the year of opposites.
God had deserted us and in turn we resented him.
The economy happily collapsed our little nests of worldly security and in its wake a redundant nation wept.
The long summer of fruit cider and grilled fish surrendered to cold nights and wintry ales.
But from the ashes of our broken homes, a new hope was born.
With tangible urgency; we devoured life, tasted death and emerged changed.
